City Students go on a space camp at NASA

Adding another feather to the cap of Jharkhand - ten students from the Ranchi went to attend the six-day space workshop at NASA left for Delhi on Wednesday. The students departed to Delhi from the Ranchi Railway station for their further journey to NASA.
The ten students would be representing India at a space camp being organized by the US Space and Rocket Center at National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA).
Mangalore is the only city beside Ranchi that has its representatives in the camp beside Ranchi. Altogether ten students from Sapphire International School have been selected for the camp.
“I am really excited about the experience. We would be able to know and gather a lot during our camp,” said the excited Ishita Jaiswal. The student sounded exuberant about the training they have to go through. “I am really excited. We have been told that we shall be given the same training that the astronauts get. I am really excited to witness the weightlessness training,” Subhojit Raj said.
The students would be getting a six day training at NASA where they will be get the basis astronaut training. “We have selected ten students who would get the training. A teacher and I would be accompanying the student during the whole camp,” Anupama Singh, principal, Sapphire International School claimed.
She said that the trip would end after two weeks. “The students would be taught about the basis of the astronomy. They would get the classroom sessions besides the ‘0’ gravity training and other basics,” Singh added.
Meanwhile, the school administration and the parents have incurred the cost of the whole training including the camp and travel. AK Pandey, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Government Of Jharkhand who was also present on the occasion said that the government has plans to sponsor such events henceforth. ‘This year we did not contribute to this trip. However, from next year we would sponsor such trips if it is brought into consideration,” he added.
