In midst of, the scraps of the police vehicle and the left-over of human body spread in an area of a kilometer, stood 48-years-old Raj Mangal Singh.
Singh, a jawan of JAP-9 was searching the blown-up pieces of the body of Bundu SDPO Pramod Kumar and other collogues. With a faint spell of explosive in the area, Singh stood 20-feet away from the spot where the blast took place, "At this place the bust of our Saab was found. The lower part of his body is still missing," he said.
This man, an eyewitness to the whole incident was in the vehicles that followed the SDPO’s jeep. "We were returning from Mankidih village after raids. We were supposed to do another raid in the Pundidirhi Village," he said.
Another Din Bandu Ekka who was accompanying Singh in hi search interrupted and said, "We came in this route several times. We never expected an incident at this place that stands meters away from the village. It is hard to accept what all we witnessed today," Ekka added.
Ekka explained that at the spot where the incident occurred, the vehicles had to be slowed as it was the turning point of the road as well the entry to the village. "The culvert join the forest area to the village and a Kuccha road runs parallel to the water body. We had to slow down the jeeps as the road here is uneven and we had to take a turn for entering into the village," he explained.
Singh said that the patrolling party was alerted by a burst fire done by the extremists. "We suddenly heard indiscriminate firing. The OC’s vehicle moved ahead and stood at the entrance of the village while that of SDPO stood beside the culvert," he added.
Singh said that the as the police party took position after stopping the cavalcade - the jeep of the SDPO was blown up. "It was within a fraction of a second they blew up the jeep using a landmine and there was dust and smoke everywhere," he added.
Ekka continued and said, "The firing from the other side continued for some time. We too took position and then moved inside the forest to nab them," he added. He said that after some time the search of the SDPO and his collogues began, "The blast was so powerful that there were no traces of the jeep or the person sitting inside. The hood of the jeep was found 10-feets away from the spot while its engine was found some 50-feets away," he said.
Singh pointed the spot just in front of his foot. "Here we found the bust of the SDPO. We have found the different parts of the body at different places. The parts are, however, in tattered condition," he said pointing towards a branch from where he recovered the some of the body parts.
Pramod Kumar, a resident of Jamtara, who came from the Bihar Cader was from the 1999 batch. "He was supposed to be married this December. Everything was final but not his fate," claimed an officer of his batch.
