The people whose name spells danger and insecurity – keep their families in the state capital and other main cities of the State for safety and better environment. The top brass of naxalites who were nabbed in the recent past from Ranchi and other parts of the state brought this surprising revelation before the police.
Right from the arrest of the CPI (Maoist) zonal commander from Lalpur to that of the zonal commander of the People’s Liberation Army of India (PLFI) from the heart of the state capital, most of the top naxalites nabbed here come to meet their families or for some investment purposes, police claims.
"The higher level of the extremists are turning towards the main cities either to invest the money they have earned in the in the forest. They make houses and shift their families in the cities," DIG RK Mallick, spokesman, Jharkhand Police said. He added that the extremists are spending their funds in purchasing land or investing them in the transportation business.
"We have information that the high ranker of the extremist group do come to the cities either to build a house and settle their families here or for sales or to purchase property. The modus operandi of these sale and purchase is always different. They generally invest on the name of some other persons," he added.
While, Birbal, a zonal commander of CPI (Maoist) was nabbed while he had come to meet his family members at Ratu, the Zonal commander of Garwha was nabbed from Sukhdeonagar while he was in the city to purchase a lorry. The police have arrested more than a dozen of extremist in the state capital in the past two months including the top slots of the CPI (Maoist), Jharkhand Liberation Tigers (JLT) and PLFI.
The DIG claimed that the large chunk of naxalites being caught in the state capital should not be taken as a threat to the commoners. "They live like commoners and are not here to trigger any incident. So, a threat to commoners is far beyond doubt," he said.
MS Bhatia, SSP Ranchi too agreed to this point of Mallick. "Basically there are three reasons for the extremists presence in the state capital. No doubt the catches in the recent past have brought to fore the fact the extremist come for their families but the lower levels cadre come here to participate in the overground activities like dharna or the circulation of literature. Secondly, they get the benefits of anonymity in the large population here. And the most important is that it is the nodal point for them. They have to come to the state capital," Bhatia said.
He said that recent catches have also brought to fore the fact that the higher levels of the extremists do come here to enjoy luxuries. "We have information that they visited the multiplexes, shopping complexes, stayed in the luxurious hotel and visited restaurants to taste the best wine in the town before they were nabbed," he added.
