Land Disputes a major concern for PoliceShishir Kumar

The development and expansion of the State Capital has come out as major headache for the Police. The business of sale and purchase of land that reached it’s zenith after the creation of the new State has claimed many lives in the past years. Ranchi has seen two dozen land disputed murders within the past eight months.
Statistics claim that around 90 percent of murders committed in the city are fallout of land related disputes. The irony stands that the land brokers sell the same land to different parties many times.
“If public have seen the movie ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ they must take an inspiration from it. The way these brokers take the parties in confidence is very much similar to the way show in the movie,” Amit Kumar, CO Namkom said.
While the police are all worried to stop the incident of murder they seem helpless in curbing them. “First thing is murder is not a crime that can be stopped. Secondly, stopping the land related disputes is none of our concern ofcourse on our end we are trying to curb the bloodshed,” Inspector Mohammad Nihalludin of district police said.
He added that the bloodshed is quite odious. “After a land is sold neither the land owner knows about the deal nor do the buyers know about the fact. At the end of the day the two fight to get the land. If it comes to a land that gives occupation or a land that one has bought spending all of ones saving – the enmity is quite obvious,” the inspector added.
The CO too agreed to the thoughts of the police. “They sell the land without the consent of the owners. The fake document that is prepared is really hard to differentiate. Even a very technical person would find it difficult to differentiate,” he added
An official source claimed that many IPS and IAS official have been the victims of such land deals. “Once a very senior official of the state police bought a land that was disputed. He made the payment and later came to know that the land that he bought was not of the person who pretended to be its owner. It is not the sole case but many big names are there that have been fooled by the brokers,” the source added.
Meanwhile, the tribal organisations have taken such matters seriously and have launched a state-wide agitation against such land deals. “People are taking advantage the illiterate tribals. They sell their land without consent. We are no more going to tolerate this and would react if any such matter comes for our consideration,’ claimed a leader of Adivashi Chatra Sangh. The union under this mission had burned down a car at Bariatu and a restaurant in Ormanjhi, last week.
MS Bhatia, SSP Ranchi said that the police department has taken up the matter seriously. “No doubt land disputes are matter that does not come in our jurisdiction. However, we help when the district administration seeks a help. We are however concentration on the murders that are taking place due to these. The police has made a strategy and we shall soon curb these incidents,” the SSP claimed.
