Mobile theft worth crores to state business, police helpless

The police of 24 district of Jharkhand feel helpless when it comes to trace the stolen mobile. According to official sources, the cases regarding theft of mobiles worth around Rs. 8 Crores has been registered in the past one year and mobiles worth Rs. 1 Crores were stolen from the State Capital itself in past four months.
The Ranchi Police receives around 20 complaints of mobile losses and theft everyday, however, the complaints lodged are of no good use than for cancellation of the sim cards.
“It is impossible to trace so many mobile phones. If we are given the task of tracing the mobile phones whose reports are filed with us – then there is a need to create separate department for the same,” claimed an officer of the Ranchi Police.
The fact however remains that the city has witnessed six major cases of mobile theft in city-based shops. Miscreants committed theft in two shops that stands on the Main Road Ranchi and the shocking a shop – Lucky Vanighya, faced this trouble twice, within a couple of months.
Beside the state capital, Jamshedpur, the coal belt and districts of Santhal Pargana have registered maximum incident of mobile theft in the State. Police sources claims that a Santhal Pargana gang is behind the thefts of mobile in the State.
The booty of such crimes have mobile and accessories worth Rs 16 lakh to Rs 4 lakh in different cases. “Nabbing the culprits in cases of mobile theft is not possible. For this a better technique is needed. The technical branch will have to bring out a solution to this matter,” Randhir Kumar, OC Lower Bazar said.
Meanwhile, senior police official claims that the cell-phones are disseminated and then sold. “The mobiles are cannot be traced because they are sold part wise. Secondly, the mobiles are secondly not sold in the Bihar and Jharkhand circle and so their running their iemi number does not help,” Mohammad Nihalludin, Circle Inspector, Daily Market area said.
A fraternity of the police believes that the thefts are not real. “No doubt, that there have been cases of theft. But the fact remains that the figures higher as the businessman want to claim more insurance,” claimed a police official.
Meanwhile, SSP Ranchi MS Bhatia claimed that the police are all set to counter the miscreants. ‘We have made a foolproof plan to tackle this menace in State Capital. A special team is all set to be formed that would be technically well equipped to trace these menace creators,’ claimed the SSP.
