No one from batches before 2005 would be caught in this ongoing drives of the medical colleges against the allegedly faulty candidates, claims a setter. The replacement of the candidates by the scholars started after Ranjit Singh Don, the kingpin of the admission racket, was nabbed in late 2003.
“The real game of candidate replacement started back in 2005. Actually, the question could not be leaked in the 2005 examinations. So an alternate to it was the replacement of the candidates was started the next year,” claimed a source.
The setters claimed that the before 2004 the candidates themselves used to sit in the examinations. “We used to give them the question papers and answers. We were responsible only till the. After that it was up to the students,” the setter claimed.
“After the arrested of Don we became unorganized for a year and so no unfair means was adopted in 2005. We had however managed to leak the papers in 2004. After 2005 we take contracts for getting a student admitted,” the setter added.
A setter takes anything from Rs. 1lakh to Rs.8 lakh from the candidates. “We first need to set a scholar, a medical student, who would sit in the exam instead of the real candidates. We pay them around Rs 0.50 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh depending on the entrance examination,” he added.
A special photograph made after mixing the photograph of the scholar and the real candidate is generally used by the fake candidates. These photographs are made at a photo lab in Patna. “Each such photo costs us Rs. 500. Those are the photographs that can be used by the candidates as well as the scholars. The candidates’ sticks this very photographs on his admit card,” the setter added.
The scholars are given the best of the facilities available. “We send the scholars either by flight or by the first class in railway. The scholars are left to choose the hotels they wish to stay during this period” he added.
The scholars are given a minimum amount of Rs. 20 thousand for sitting in the examination. “If they pass they are paid the whole of the amount promised to them. The cost of their accommodations and travel is not included in the money paid to them,” a source added.
Meanwhile, the setters said that the whole business of the admission is managed from the two medical colleges in Patna and a medical college in Darbhanga. “A simple student can be very well differentiated from the crowd of the students who are into this business. One can find students maintaining two SUVs besides 4-5 motorcycles in the campus. They live kingsize in the campus,” a source claimed.
